Industry Initiatives
Fashion Business Collective is building open infrastructure to address operational challenges that affect the entire fashion industry. Each initiative targets a specific problem where better tools and shared standards can make a measurable difference.
These initiatives are developed in collaboration with its.fashion, a London-based fashion technology consultancy and FBC's chosen industry technology partner. Each initiative has its own dedicated platform where fashion businesses can access the tools directly.
Tariff Classification
Customs classification remains one of the most error-prone steps in cross-border fashion trade. Incorrect tariff codes lead to overpaid duties, shipment delays, and compliance penalties. For many brands and sourcing teams, the process is still manual, inconsistent, and dependent on individual expertise that is difficult to scale.
Fashion Business Collective's tariff classification initiative aims to simplify customs classification for fashion products. The goal is to give brands and sourcing professionals a reliable way to classify garments and accessories against the Harmonised System, reducing the cost and risk of getting it wrong.
This initiative is delivered through suretariff.com, where fashion businesses can access the classification tools directly.
Product Identification and Digital Passports
The European Union's Digital Product Passport requirements arrive in 2027, and fashion businesses need to be ready. Beyond regulatory compliance, the industry lacks a consistent, affordable way to give every product a verifiable digital identity at the point of manufacture.
Fashion Business Collective's product identification initiative exists to give every fashion product a verifiable digital identity. Built on the GS1 Digital Link standard, it provides production-ready QR code generation at batch and SKU level, with PLM connectivity and consumer-facing verification.
This initiative is delivered through id.codes, where fashion businesses can access the identification and DPP tools directly.
Traceability and Transparency
Supply chain transparency expectations continue to intensify across the fashion industry. Legislation, consumer expectations, and investor scrutiny all demand that brands can demonstrate where and how their products are made. Yet most traceability efforts remain fragmented, expensive, and difficult to verify independently.
Fashion Business Collective is building open traceability infrastructure for the fashion supply chain. This initiative is not yet launched, but when it is ready it will provide a neutral platform for tracking and verifying supply chain activity across the industry.
This initiative is in development. Further details will be shared as they become available.
How We Work
Each initiative is developed in collaboration with its.fashion, FBC's chosen industry technology partner. its.fashion brings over 35 years of fashion technology consulting experience, having worked with more than 100 brands, retailers, and licensees worldwide.
Fashion Business Collective leads the direction, positioning, and industry engagement for each initiative. its.fashion provides the technical development and implementation expertise. As the platform grows, additional partners will join to promote and implement FBC tools across the industry.
All initiatives are built on open standards where possible, designed to avoid vendor lock-in, and intended to serve the widest possible range of fashion businesses.
